Soldiers Letter

Dear Mom and Dad,
Today is 1915 and I am great full to be alive. I won’t lie to you and tell you that I am not scared and that this is easy because it’s the opposite. I am terrified as to whether I will die do to a sniper’s bullet, or some other disease that is plaguing my comrades in the trenches. People die around me everyday due to disease or the enemy and it’s killing me because I know that my time is coming soon where I will be that unlucky guy who caught the snipers eye.
I just want you to know that I love you a lot and I wish that things could have turned out different. I wish that you could have persuaded me to chose a different path rather than enlist in the army to help my country. I regret my choice because that one choice shortened my life in a very drastic way. I won’t be able to see April again and I won’t be able to say good bye to you or her. All I have now are pictures which are fading everyday and the memories that we share together.
One day I hope that you can forgive me for choosing this path and ruining my life and yours. I don’t want you to grieve over me because that will just make it worse. I know it really feels horrible that your son is to die before you, but that shouldn’t stop you from living you life.
Love you forever and good bye,
-Justin

Hades is the answer to Wars Everywhere.......

Attempt 1:
Hi, my name is Justin and I have a plan which will be the future of the gaming industry. If I were to tell you that I could turn a xbox 360 into something smaller, portable and much better, would you be interested? I know I would, and this new product would be call the Ultimate Portable Gamer(U.P.G) for short. If you Mr. Buffet were to buy this product you would become a big partner in this big company and would have a big say in whatever is done in this company. If you Mr. Buffet were to fund us, not only would you get your money back but you would become a big voice in the future of gaming. We would sell this product in the states, but that would be the start of it all. Once the product has been succesful in the states we then move the product to different places in the world. We go to the places where they will buy the product the most mainly where the rich live. Eventually when we have made enough money off of this prdocut we can go ahead and think of something even better although I hardly think it is possible.
Attempt 2:
Hi, my name is Justin and this is my partner Nemo. We have come up with a new way in which we can make everyone fear us and we can become the power house of the world. I have invented a new weapon which will strike the fear into our enemies. This weapon is called Hades. It is an assortment of a 8 missles which spread apart at a wide range and will kill an entire army with a single bomb. With this at our disposal we can eliminate targets so fast that there would be no need to send our men into battle. This Mr Buffet is the future of war as we know it. Imagine not having to send out all these men, not having to tell mother and wives that there beloved have died by a gernade or by a halo of gun fire. This would be great, so if you help us fund this project you will be saving many lives for our country. I also think that there would be less wars because if they knew about this weapon they would never be dumb enough to send men out so blindly ready to die within a couple of minutes. Mr. Buffet this is the future, so are you going to help us or not? We would only sell this weapon the states ofcourse in return for a large sum of money and all the protection they can give.
Question 1: Now that you are a Millionare how will you make a difference eigther for the planet and or for some of its inhabitents?
Answer. With this weapon the Hades there will be countless nubmer of men/women not dying. I would use my fortune to help others and to make life much easier for people suffering.

What I learned from Socratic Seminar

During the Seminar I leared that there are a lot of problems in the world that people are facing, and I noticed that what our teacher(Mr. Carpenter) has been teaching us has helped us to answer these questions. He gave us suggestions which we can give the people in charge of the Reconstruction of the places we are learing about(Korea, and Haiti). In the Seminar I learned that you can't bring about change quickly, you must do it deliberately. I also learned that if you are to do something you should take your time and not rush into it(Diliberately)
When I say that you cant bring change fast, I mean that if were to bring change it has to be deliberately. To bring change to fast you are avoiding the problem like the compromise of 1850(like chadine said). To bring change to fast is not to bring change but further problems, if you are to bring change it must be at a steady pace. Deliberately, is how change should be brought forth. There are certain steps which need to be taken in order to ashure that the change will be worth it in the days to come.

Did anyone dominate the conversation? How did the group handle this?
- I dont think anyone in the group really dominated the conversation, but I do think that others had some very good ideas which we built off to start a discussion. The group handled this well and collected thoughts from this person and then carried forth a new perspective towards the question.

What evidence did you see of people actively listening and building on others' ideas?
How has your understanding of each EQ been affected by the ideas explored in this
seminar?
-I answered this question in the question above....

What was the best part of the seminar? The worst part?
-I would say that the best part of the Seminar is that some really good ideas were laid out on the table and that my head really started to think about all the possibilities. There wasn't really a worst part, but the time where people were interrupting the class and had to be dealt with.

What would you like to do differently as a participant the next time you are in a seminar?\
-I would like to have been the person starting this discussion because, I was just sitting there taking mental notes.
Summary: Overall I think that this seminar was a very good idea, because as a class I think that all the students interacted well with the EQ. We all had good ideas its just that some were better than the others.

Johnsons Reconstruction Plan:
In johnsons plan he pardoned southerners who took the oath to the union, states were required to abolish slavery and repay the confederate debt. States could then have elections and join the union.
Black codes:
-Black people couldn't gather after sunset
-Black men had to sign a agreement that said they would work for a year and those who quite early usually lost all of there pay
- Black people could rent or own homes only in rural areas
- Black people who didn't work could be wiped, fine or sold for a years labor.
14 and 15 amendment
- Stated that all american citizens could vote, and the color or race of that person didn't matter.
-all people born in the united states are citizens and no state can make laws making a certain race abide by the rules which another race doesn't
Carpetbaggers
-carpetbaggers were greedy men who tried to profit from the southerners
-usually educated men who wanted to make money
Scalawags
- people who oppose secession
- many scalawags were poor but not all

The war ends

At the end of the war, there are very big changes. The blacks are now free, but they are also now without a home or food. The war has destroyed two thirds of the souts shopping industries and the south has lost 260,000 soldiers. After the war there were many widows and orphans, due to the fact that all who fighted were men.

Linchon had a reconstruction plan put in place, which said that if any confederate who took oath with the uinio would be pardoned. There were no pardons for people who didn't take the oath. All states were to participate in anything the union did they were to come back fully to the union, this was another rule of reconstruction.

Blacks with freedom had the freeedom of movement, freedom to own land, freedom to worship and freedom to learn.
